Fire protective membrane elements are ideal for encasing in formed shapes structural members as well as providing fire barriers to protect storage vessels, high value assets, shut-down valves and personnel egress paths.
Owners and operators of industrial complexes are solely responsible for the maintenance of industrial complexes in accordance with the relevant laws, standards and fire /building codes as applicable.
LAF’s system comprising Trimesh® and Vermitex® THis a composite membrane solution providing the ultimate in flexibility for such an installation. It comprises an inner steel (in special cases stainless) core encased into a durable lightweight concrete skin. It is tough, fire, blast, impact and corrosion resistant. It will prevent the passage of fire and smoke from either direction when horizontally or vertically fixed, and is currently the most slender system able to comply with the insulation criteria and maintain the cold face temperature below 180 °C for two (2) hours even when tested to the RWS fire curve. The LAF membrane system can be engineered to form an unlimited number of shapes and forms and can be used as a ceiling, wall, plenum, duct, fan enclosures or as a fire passageway.
The Trimesh® Vermitex® THseparating elements of construction can be also prefabricated or sprayed on site in the final position. The systems are installed by LAF staff, or by suitably trained local labour. It is inherently durable by design and totally maintenance free. Any damage can be repaired by hand.

Trimesh® and Vermitex® THcomposite fire wall system is one of the many innovative fireproofing systems developed by LAF. It is used in Public Utilities where external transformer units are divided by external steel framed pre-cast concrete fire walls. The structural steel elements supporting the pre-cast wall must have the same FRL as the concrete precast walls, and typically have a requirement to be fire protected to four (4) hours.
In the event of a fire, the concrete pre-cast wall and structural steel having differential expansion rates which prove difficult elements to bridge and /or attach to in such conditions. The Trimesh® / Vermitex® THsystem is able to take up this movement without compromising the integrity of the structural steel fire separating element.
More importantly through independent testing and empirical data verification, the Trimesh® / Vermitex® TH system has been deemed to be extremely durable and capable of achieving a serviceable life of 25 , 50 and up to 100 years (Refer Branz Reports: JC0833, DCZ 062, DZ 096). With many projects completed in high humidity environments (South East Asia), our system has demonstrated the ability to provide superior service life, while maintaining the fire protection requirements.
ENVIRONMENTAL, DURABILITY AND RECYCLABILITY
From its inception LAF has cared about being responsible by consistently carrying out environmental and durability testing on products used for, amongst other things, PETROCHEMICAL FIRE PROTECTION and consequently our Clients are able to minimize the risks from warranty, insurance and damage claims by detecting design flaws early. From the beginning of the new millennium LAF have engaged reputable third party laboratories to assess the performance of our Vermitex® TH based on empirical data and site specimens collected since 1960.
LAF first introduced fire tested solutions to include the use of recycled materials in 1990. For 20 years LAF coatings have been engineered with sustainability and recyclability in mind. Our product formulation, which remain unchanged since the early sixties, has provided our committed Clients valuable data for them to design durable systems for the protection of concrete and steel elements making credible durability one of the most important offerings by the LAF Group.

Our Vermitex cementitious fireproofing compound is spray-applied, requiring only the addition of clean water at the job site. They are formulated for maximum application efficiency and minimal wastage, in both material and labour context.
As spray applied monolithic systems, Vermitex is extremely waste efficient, and recyclable. Unlike prefabricated blocks or board systems, which are prefabricated in standard sizes at the remote factory, and then site trimmed, only the necessary amount of Vermitex is used to cover the required building element.
As Society demands a more sustainable future, our latest installation procedures now incorporate a more responsible attitude in that any resulting over spray can be swept up and reprocessed/recycled immediately through the spray equipment or alternatively set mortar may be broken down and recycled in real time on the job. Alternatively it may be recycled into materials or disposed of at approved landfills.
The process of recycling has been tested and proven, and will not vary the performance of the coating.
